Johnny Depp Loathes Again In The Rum Diary

* Johnny Depp last played the late Hunter S Thompson in Terry Gilliam's underrated masterpiece Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The good news is he is going to play Thompson again in The Rum Diary which is set before the events in Fear and Loathing and also based on one of his books. Bruce Robinson the director of Withnail and I is behind the camera and the film will be released by Warner Independent Pictures.

* Disney is looking to produce a live action version of classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarves with a mixture of martial arts for Snow White and the Seven. The story follows an British girl raised in Hong Kong who is destined to battle evil and thus trains with seven shaolin monks. Francis Lawrence the director of the rather underrated Constantine directs. Yuen Woo Ping will choreograph the kick ass.

* Its interesting how five years down the line someone can go from do no wrong savior of British comedy to really kind of love or hate them actor. Ricky Gervais is such a person and has signed on as the lead in Early Retirement which concerns a dad who quits his stressful job in order to spend more time with his kids. Could be great, could be Gervais selling out to make a Daddy Day Care type pukefest.

* McG the director of the frankly pants Charlies Angels films is attached to a script from the co writer of Little Miss Sunshine, Michael Arndt. Nightcrawlers is about a man who has to turn to his childhood tormentor to get over a fear of the dark and of some  monsters who haunt him.

* George Miller the director of the badass Mad Max and Babe films as well as erm Happy Feet is rumored to be the director of a forthcoming Justice League of America film or JLA for short. The JLA is made up of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash. Its not clear if Christian Bale or Brandon Routh are involved. If they can't get Superman vs Batman to happen how are they going to do this? If this ever happens I will never go on line again and eat something like a hat.

* Frank Miller has decided to cast Gabriel Macht in the lead role of his solo directorial debut The Spirit. The Spirit is adapted from the classic comic strip by Will Eisner. Miller will film this on green sound stages ala Sin City and 300.

* Roger Avary the director of the underrated The Rules of Attraction as well as the writer of underrated Silent Hill and forthcoming Beowulf has signed on to direct video game adaptation Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

* James Cameron has not had a theatrical film released in 10 years nearly but he hasn't been sitting around counting his cash. Cameron has been developing special 3D technology which we have glimpsed in his IMAX docs Ghosts of the Deep and Aliens of the Deep. in 2009 we will all have our minds blown by his Sci-Fi epic Avatar, The film stars Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington and Michelle Rodriguez. filming on the live action portion lasts only 31 days in October with the rest of production to be spent on the extensive computer animation.

* Len Wiseman the director of Underworld and the actually better than expected Die Hard 4.0 has been connected with both the Escape from New York remake and video game adap Gears of War. The script for the Escape from New York remake actually got a pretty good review online recently so this could turn out okay.
